• Alison’s journey began when Louie, her cherished canine companion, was diagnosed with cancer and needed a life-saving limb amputation. During this incredibly challenging time, Alison turned to a community of three-legged animal owners for support. Not only did this support system provide guidance and comfort to Alison and her family, it also brought to light the financial hardship families encounter when confronted with a cancer diagnosis and the prospect of amputation for their pets.

The financial burden their family faced was substantial, but Louie’s unwavering spirit inspired them to embark on a mission to assist others in similar situations.

Alison and her 3 children started the 3 Legacy Foundation dedicated to helping families with financial constraints whose dogs have been diagnosed with cancer and can benefit from limb amputation. The foundation is wholeheartedly committed to ensuring that pets maintain good health and continue to thrive with their loving families.

In an effort to support the foundation, Alison channeled her playful spirit and love for storytelling into a heartwarming children’s book celebrating the profound bond between children and their furry friends.

As a mother of three, Alison understands the importance of instilling the values of friendship, perseverance, and resilience in children. Her debut publication, featuring Louie, the family’s endearing three-legged dog, is a heartwarming tale that weaves together these themes.

For pet owners facing the difficult choice between financial constraints and their pet's well-being, this foundation's work serves as a lifeline for those in need. Alison and her family are unwavering in their dedication to the health and happiness of both dogs and their families.

  • Louie's journey of both heart-wrenching challenges and inspirational triumphs is a testament to the deep bond between humans and their cherished pets.

On May 6th, 2022, Louie’s life took an unexpected turn when the groomer discovered a sizable mass on his hind leg, setting in motion a whirlwind of events.

Louie’s family quickly sought the expertise of the veterinarians at The University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine’s Oncology Center, where the heartbreaking diagnosis was confirmed: Louie was battling Chondrosarcoma, a form of bone cancer of the connective tissue.

The only way to eliminate the cancer was through a complex procedure known as a hemipelvectomy, involving the amputation of his leg and the removal of a portion of his pelvis. Louie, with his unwavering patience, boundless love and charming personality, was an irreplaceable part of the family, and the thought of losing him was unimaginable.

Louie’s family was faced with the emotional and financial strains that often come with caring for a pet diagnosed with cancer. Choosing the life-saving procedure was an emotional decision, compounded by the financial burden that came with it. Despite the daunting costs and emotional toll, they were determined to provide Louie with the necessary treatment.

The incredible resilience and spirit that Louie displayed were nothing short of remarkable. Within just a few months, he not only adapted to his new circumstance but also reclaimed his joy, running, jumping, and playing with the same exuberance as any four-legged dog. Louie's surgery was a resounding success and Louie was cancer-free.

Louie’s journey brought a deep understanding of the financial challenges that many pet owners encounter when faced with canine limb amputation as a result of a cancer diagnosis. It sparked a desire to help others and out of this desire, the 3 Legacy Foundation was born.

Louie's story encapsulates the boundless power of love and resilience in the face of adversity. It serves as a testament that armed with love, unwavering determination, and the support of family you can conquer any obstacle and make life truly extraordinary. It's not the number of legs that matter, but the size of the heart and the strength of the will.
